After Sam’s factory group has filled the provisions quota, the factory belt stops and the computer announces “validate provisions slip at the metro stop. Provisions are available at district community centers. It is 5:00. Path B group is released.” The factory doors open to the waiting metro and the brown mass once again boards the metro to classical music. Fifteen minutes pass, and the metro stops at the district community center for Wednesday provisions collection.
When the doors open, Sam is bombarded with shouting and a mob of people in multi-colored work jumpsuits. The path B brown jumpsuits drop their heads and trudge forward to the community center doors, pretending to not hear the shouts of “cybernetics is a lie,” “one hundred years too long,” “equal but still oppressed.”
Once inside, a path E worker in a green jumpsuit silently scans Sam’s finger and hands him his provisions package. Sam leaves, pushes through the colorful crowd, and re-boards the metro.
